Really cool!
We bought the HD Pico because we travel quite a bit and thought it would be nice to always have a large screen to watch in hotel rooms. I was a little concerned about having something only 50 lumens, but brightness was not an issue. In this picture I have the blinds in my room open half way during the day, so you can see there's plenty of light in the room and the projector is still visibile. With the overhead lights on it became a lot more difficult to see, but the room doesn't need to be pitch black. I deducted 1 star because of a few minor things. There doesn't appear to be any keystone correction. 1. There are keystone buttons on the remote, but nothing happens on the projector when I use them. 2. The sound is indeed terrible. I was however expecting this, so I purchased a mini speaker separately to handle this so no surprise. 3. One of the little rubber feet was missing on the projector out of the box. Of these, the only one I was disappointed in was the lack of keystone adjustment.
Update: it's only been 2 weeks, but I'm providing an update because I've been traveling and have had this on for many hours now and have some more comments. I did discover one somewhat alarming issue. It's not a deal breaker, but it was frustrating. I was watching video from my laptop with the HDMI cable while running the projector on battery. The battery died and the projector turned off, so I plugged it in and turned it back on - it immediately turned back off. I plugged it into my phone and it would work UNTIL I started a video, then it turned back off. I thought it might be hosed, so I just left it plugged in to check the next day. I discovered the next evening that it worked just fine again. The only thing I can think is that the 5v power from the USB can't quite keep up with charging and the refresh needed to show a video. We just leave it plugged in all the time wherever we're staying and haven't had issues since. Another slight annoyance is that it uses a micro USB cable for charging but the port isn't designed very well because all my micro USB cables except the one that came with the projector like to fall out. I tried my Kindle and my Nexus tablet cables, but they both fall out even though I use them interchangeably with other products that need a micro cable. I deal with this issue by using a USB extension cable I already had, but it is a little annoying.
As far as connections, there are several on the back. There's the micro USB for charging, a regular USB 2.0 A port for flash and presumably hard drives, a MicroSD slot (I haven't used this or the flash drive port), a 3.5mm jack to plug in RCA video inputs using an adapter that's provided, a 3.5mm stereo jack for headphones or an external speaker, and a Mini HDMI port. For the person having difficulty figuring out how to connect it, just buy whatever adapter to mini HDMI you need. My laptop has an HDMI port, so I use an HDMI to Mini HDMI cable ($5.99 here on Amazon). For my phone, I have an iPhone so I use the Apple AV adapter to connect to the same HDMI cable I use with my laptop.
Update #2: I'm dropping the review rating this time. I haven't had this issue because I don't usually use this for hours at a time. We were watching movies on the projector for about 3 hours when it turned off. It behaved just like it did when it was on battery power. It appears that it lasts much longer, but the projector will still use the battery up and die even when it's plugged into a charger. You can leave it plugged in and let it recharge to use again, but it doesn't appear that you can run it indefinitely on the charger. This is a deal breaker. I don't really care if this thing even has a battery, it should be able to run constantly if it's plugged in.
