I have read all of Silva’s books but noticed he had turned a hard left in the last few. They were so bad I decided I would skip The Cellist. But surprise, surprise, my wife who does not have riotous hair but incredible brains bought it. She’s never read a thriller in her life. If it isn’t a serious work she wouldn’t be interested. But she loves the cello and bought it on impulse. “later it would be said she had a mind fart” She in fact read it and asked me if I wanted to read it? Her question was cloaked in the warning that the last 25% of the book would drive me bonkers. “Maybe Silva is angling for a cabinet post,” she warned. Well, it was bought and paid for so I thought I would give Silva another chance for all the good years. My wife was right. Tear out the anti-Trump, Jan 6 tirades and the book would at least feel vaguely familiar. But short of that, Silva, like our country, has lost direction. Save your money.
