A downgrade from the XB950N1 in everything but comfort
I bought this expecting it to be a nice upgrade from my XB950N1. It's more comfortable, so that's a nice plus, but after listening to several songs and feeling like something was off, I pulled up a sine-wave frequency test and discovered that the frequency response below 40hz is much weaker and tinnier than the old XB950N1. To make matters worse, the physical buttons on the right cup are replaced with a really stupid invisible touch system which is super easy to set off by accident whenever you take off your headset during conversation or adjust it, or fall asleep sitting in a train, etc. The final strike against it is that whenever you plug the headset in using the 3.5mm wire, it turns OFF all the equalizer settings and defaults back to a boring, plain sound with NO bass boost and with no way to change it back. The old XB950N1 saves the bass boost settings in the headset and keeps it whenever you plug in the wire, allowing you to use it on a PC without issue. I can't for the life of me figure out why they REMOVED a good software feature, or why they think having to slide your finger around doing gestures is easier than having a physical button to pause. The biggest offender is the reduced low-bass response, and so the only saving grace is the fact that it's more comfortable with better padding (particularly over the head) which is why I'm giving it two stars instead of one. It's a shame, really, cause I was truly looking forward to this purchase.
