2nd Revised review of: Much improved over the 928v2 design!
*****2nd revised review on May 4, 2018
I have not changed my overall opinion about the 928v3 sneaker, however an odd thing happened. At Christmas time my family did not know that I hated these new shoes and they purchased me a new pair in the navy/gray suede color. They fit completely differently then the others in the line. They are the closest fit to the original 928 out there. I absolutely love the navy/gray suede sneakers! Maybe it’s because of the fabric difference, I’m really not sure why, but even the tongue is longer on these pair and the wide width doesn’t seem as bulky as the new version in the other colors. So if you’re desperate for something like the original, give the navy/gray suede color a try.

Unfortunately after wearing these new shoes for a few weeks I cannot recommend them at all for 3 very specific and important reasons. The only positive at this point is that they are roomier like the original 928. Other than that they fall far short of the original.
1. The cushioned support is just not there. While I noticed the difference immediately after I put them on I didn't know how bad the cushioning would be until I had to spend all day standing at work in them. Within a few hours I felt like I was standing on cement blocks. No feeling like I was walking on a cloud like when I wore the original 928.
2. The tongues were too freakin short. I don't know why they decided to shorten the length but in order to pull them out enough to be comfortable just wasn't possible. Through the course of the day the tongues actually crept down below the tied shoelaces. It also made it much more difficult to put them on without a shoehorn because there was so little tongue to grasp. See the picture taken from the top to see the differences. Black 928 original. Grey 928v3
3. They are definitely shorter in the heel area. I have 3/4 orthopedic inserts that I always put in the shoe either under, or over, the original inserts. In the original model I could do so and my heel still fit comfortably in the shoe. With this new design my foot was definitely higher out of the shoe and if I wanted to wear the shoe with no-show socks, forget it! They would creep down to the middle of my foot within an hour. I put a pair of the original 928 sneakers beside these new 928v3 sneakers and the new ones are definitely shorter in height in the heel area, perhaps as much as 1/2 inch, as well as the back padded portion goes up into the ankle higher, more in the shape of an upside down 'U' and doesn't have the inverted shape of the originals, more like a stretched out right side up 'U' shape, to conform better to the back of the ankle. See the pictures taken from the back and sides. Black original 928. Grey 928v3
Unfortunately I purchased two pairs of these and have already worn them outside so I can't return them. I guess I will be on the lookout for a new brand of sneaker because New Balance has lost me as a long time customer. Why do they have to change a design when the original was so superior to begin with?!
*included are the pictures of the original 928 shoe in black and the 928v3 in grey so you can see the differences I am talking about.
*original review:
After my disastrous attempt to purchase the 928v2 expecting them to be just like the original 928, I was very happy to discover that new balance has been listening to us and put back the roomier, and more comfortable features of the original design in the 928v3. I have always worn 9 1/2 D in the 928 and when I ordered them in the V2 they were way too narrow. In the V3's they are a perfect width. So if you're used to the original 928's order the same size in these new V3's. I don't they think they're quite as cushioned as the original 928's but they are far better improvement over the v2 design.
