Connectors over-heated and failed after second season of use.
Despite the pretty concerning flaw in the subject, I am actually really happy with this product. In fact, I have purchased a second one even after becoming aware that the connections to the power supplies got unusually hot. In the uploaded picture you can see a single connector that has overheated and failed. This was near the end of a second winter season of use. The pad had never been washed, and normal power settings were typically no more than 4, on a scale of 1-10 The connector turned brown at the point of the physical connection and the heat was great enough to eventually blacken the wire's insulation. This made the insulation as hard as a piece of uncooked pasta and the one of the wires eventually cracked. The power supply side connector (larger wires) has also experienced some insulation shrinkage, exposing the copper cores. I was aware of the connector over-heating because I could feel it when adjusting the sheet corners (it tends to pull loose, as other's reported).
As I said above, I do otherwise like this pad. I didn't experience the noise issues others reported, it is very comfortable and provides satisfying and uniform heat. I do not actually think the connector flaw is a fire hazard per se, since the materials will just melt and fail. I suspect the voltage is too low for any arcing and ignition (or I'm being stupid). In any case, I simply cut off the connectors and soldered the wires together, re-fastening them to the pad securely. My new connections do not over-heat, of course I cannot now wash the pad but I plan to discard it soon anyway. I don't know if the current connectors have this problem but felt it was worth posting a review about what I experienced after two years.
