I purchased these gates Pet Parade Folding Pet Gate not to hold back my 16 lb. dog, but just to let her know a certain area was off limits. She is well behaved enough to understand barriers. But nonetheless, I did find these gates to be very poorly made, lacking in quality and the stain WILL rub off on clothing, walls, etc. I was playing with my dog and a small plastic ball hit one of the upright rods and it just snapped and broke into two pieces. After taking a closer look, we noticed many knots in the wood making many weak points - which is exactly how & where the break was made in the rod that was hit. Also, the gates (yes, we purchased 2) are warped and will not stay steady on a flat surface - they did better on carpeted area. We tried contacting the seller with our complaints and received no response after several attempts. Amazon stepped in via their A-Z Guarantee and we were reimbursed. Thank You Amazon - one of the many reasons we continue to shop with Amazon - they stand behind the products they sell and give great customer service. In closing, I can only suggest you DO NOT BUY these gates. They truly are poorly made and are not good for even small pets and definitely should not be used with children.
