Beware HP Instant Ink
This printer is fine, not great but fine. We came from a laser, but didn't want to re-invest in the cost of a laser printer so we bought this one. This review is mostly about HP Instant Ink and how it is a bad deal. I signed up for it when I got the printer figuring it was a convenient way to get ink delivered. They made me choose how many pages I would print per month which I did not knowing exactly what I would print. They said I could change plans at any time. I went over my allotment, but didn't know that until I got my first bill from them and they charge by the page when you go over your "allotment" so I was charged double of what I expected. I print erratic amounts with more one month over the other so there is no way that I could accurately predict how many pages I would print. Because of this and the costs associated with HP Instant Ink I decided to cancel the service... well that was easier said than done. I cancelled, got a confirmation and then they kept me enrolled for weeks. They sent out new ink and kept counting the pages I printed on my closed account. It took a few weeks to finally get it fixed, but now today my printer will not work at all. The screen says that I can't use my printer anymore until I re-enroll in HP Instant Ink or go to the store and buy non-HP Instant Ink cartridges. I can go buy new cartridges, but it sucks that my printer is now useless until I get those new cartridges. I will be buying third party ink at a fraction of the cost and it's pretty safe to say that this is my last HP printer.
