Great if you want to power cycle daily to stay connected
Total disappointment. Set up was ok. Took several tries for it to properly negotiate it's initial connection with my router, but once it was up and running, the range was excellent as was the speed. I was happy for 3 weeks. Then, any devices connected to it couldn't access the Internet. A quick unplug and plug back in fixed the issue after it rebooted. Then I was good for another 2 weeks, and had to power cycle again to get devices Internet access. Then it went for 1 week. Then every 2-3 days. I now have to unplug and plug it back in every single day when I get home from work for connected devices to have Internet access. Ridiculously annoying since (1) it has such a wide range that most of my devices prefer to connect to it, instead of directly to the router, only to have a useless connection to an expensive nightlight with no actual internet, (2) it is upstairs in a corner of my bedroom, so I have to go up and down the stairs to power cycle it (at least that would be good cardio if it weren't for the stress and irritability this junk device creates), and (3) I work an hour away from home and depend on remote access to my devices that lose their connection because of this extreme disappointment.
I sprung the extra money in hopes of a fast and reliable device, and feel like I got hosed because it doesn't turn into a useless piece of junk until the return period is over. It's sad, because when it does work, it is absolutely wonderful, but power cycling on a daily basis is unacceptable. This is not my first bad experience with a netgear device, but it will be my last. I am done with their products. D-link, Asus, and linksys/cisco have all proven far more reliable. It was a stupid move going for netgear knowing that their products always had connectivity issues for me in the past, but I figured I would give them another shot after a decade of avoiding them. Now I avoid them for life. I recommend others do the same. I am an advanced pc builder and systems administrator with 20+ years experience, and have yet to find anything with the netgear name on it worth my time. Hope this helps at least one other person avoid this headache.
