★★☆☆☆
Incomplete story
The premise was interesting (think Ghost Whisperer set in early London) with a 17-year-old who can see ghosts. There could have been a number of good stories about how she and her older sister (who cannot see ghosts but arranges the seances) work with the living and the dead. Alas, the story takes an unlikely romantic turn when this young medium sees a very real-looking ghost. She can even touch him (why he is different is never explained) and almost immediately falls for him. Then she becomes embroiled in trying to find out what happened to him. Naturally, the ghost falls for her too. It was frustrating that we never find out how or why the ghost was killed, why he can be held and kissed, or who was responsible for his death. A demon was accidentally released by her sister and gets involved with the ghost's remaining family, but the mystery of who is controlling the demon is not discovered. This young medium also has a different father from her sister but doesn't know who he is or why her mother was with him and that is not answered either. The book was like the first several chapters of a story without the end. Nothing was completed, no loose ends tied up, no satisfying ending. I don't mind a good story that I can tell leads to a sequel, but this is not even a complete story.
