Potentially dangerous grip design
I really wanted to like this product. I have 4 other Rockwell tools that are among the best designed and manufactured tools I own. And I own a lot of tools. I am an experienced carpenter and have used many different brands and sizes of circular saw over the past 30+ years.
The grip on this tool makes the operator rotate his hand 90 degrees forward from the grip on every other circular saw I've ever used. In this position, it is very difficult to maintain precise control when pushing the saw forward and it would be very dangerous in a kickback situation. No matter what your skill level, kickback can happen to anyone if you hit something hard in the wood. It's not a big deal if you use proper technique and know how to control it. This grip makes it hard to control even if you are experienced.
To make matters worse, the grip is very large and narrows only where you place your finger on the trigger. This makes it impossible to get all of your fingers wrapped fully around it -- only the first two fingers can fully wrap around it. In the event of kickback with any circular saw, the user must maintain a firm grip and release the trigger. With the handle angle on most circular saws, a saw that kicks back normally does so right against the heel of your hand. Not so with this tool. And, since your index finger needs to release the trigger, in a kickback you will be torn between maintaining a firm grip with only 2 fingers (one of them on the trigger) and releasing the trigger.
Very dangerous. I sent it back.
