The Lord of the Rings trilogy of movies is definitely my favorite (gasp...even more than Star Wars). I own both the theatrical and extended versions on standard definition DVD.
Releasing the theatrical versions alone on blu-ray is just a way for New Line to cash in again on those of us who love the movies. Why not do right by the fans and release both versions together or some other special package? I hate to say it but I am waiting and encouraging everyone else to do the same!
