Girlcop Cliche Strike
Seemed to me like the author woke up one day & decided her Indian name was Badass Rogue Wannabe Profiler Girlcop Carrying Glock & then went to town on every cop story cliché she could muster.....without doing the slightest bit of research on proper police procedure, to boot! Flat, one-dimensional characters with no attempt to flesh them out into interesting people in whom you could become invested or even care about what happens to them. Even the victims were nameless, bloodied paper dolls who were just there as scenery. Predictable, stale plotline from the get-go. I'm supposed to believe Girlcop instantly picked up on the killer's religious motive but takes 3/4ths of the book to figure out what the letter/numbers combos meant when I got it instantly? You don't even get to find out if the bad guy lived or died at the end, for Pete's sake! I really hate being the sort of person who has to finish a book once picked up, because there's an hour & a half of my life that I'll never get back. At least I didn't have to pay for it, that's the only good thing about it. Can't believe this is a *popular* 5-book series! What on Earth makes people keep reading this drivel? PS>Have skimmed thru other reviews & can't believe how many readers thought this book had a small town setting....it clearly states it's set in the CITY of Omaha, Nebraska! So it's also clear the author just stuck a pin in a map & the sum total of her knowledge of Nebraska is *lots of cornfields*....even in the middle of a big city like Omaha. If you're not going to create a fictional universe, then you'd better have a ton of facts on hand when using a real city as the setting. You should at least take the trouble to research real highways, street names, neighborhoods, places, etc if you want to use a real city in your story. But then again, she couldn't be bothered to research police procedures & her *knowledge* of how the FBI works is a joke. so why not make Omaha nothing but cornfields?
