Ignorant piece of an authorship at best and a deliberate misleading write up at worst. The banks and the "deregulation" were at the center of the meltdown and not the GSEs. The GSEs were rather (ab-) used to digest and rework the toxic assets created by the bank frauds. Why else would all these banks be sued (successfully) by GSEs and as it's publicly known they all settled and paid back in billions to GSEs. The author is doing a great disservice to the reader and the american public in general.
