While this tiny connector serves some purpose, there is a major problem when it is used to connect a 3.0 external hard drive to the most recent Macbook Pro. It causes interference with the laptop's wifi and in my case the wifi drops off entirely. The connector I purchased from Apple does not have the same problem. (On Amazon it is Apple USB-C to USB Adapter). I can't say whether the problem is inherent to the connector or rather that the small connection means the hard drive is placed closer to the laptop than with the Apple product's two or three inch extra length. But apparently the problem has been around for some time. I'm no technical guy - check into it yourself.
