*** DEFINITELY NOT STAINLESS STEEL ***
This tenderizer is DEFINITELY NOT stainless steel AND it is NOT DISHWASHER SAFE....continue reading if this is a concern to you.
I was pretty sure it was not stainless steel when it arrived just by seeing the color of the steel. It looked similar to all the other tenderizers that are coated with an outer layer.
Also on the packaging from Farberware it even states "Heavy-duty cast-head" (see the pictures by the product on Amazon's site...that packaging label is there). Nowhere does it state stainless steel on the packaging and this was when I was sure it was not stainless steel. Any and every product that is stainless steel ALWAYS states so especially since they would be proud of their well constructed product. NOT THE CASE HERE.
I was still skeptic since it did look to have a nice shiny finish. Purposely I put it in the dishwasher on the top shelve (set on minimal time). When the wash was done the tenderizer came out with a different look and water stains all over. These water stains look different than the norm. They seemed to penetrate through the outer layer and that's exactly what happened.
Then I took a paper towel to try to wipe these stains off and noticed a black ash substance coming off. I also noticed that the top layer was coming off as well. This is what happened with my previous aluminum tenderizers when they came out of the dishwasher.
I figured I needed to give it another test and put it in the dishwasher again. This time the tenderizer had peeled off its outer layer just like your skin would when catching a sunburn.
So even though the packaging says it's "dishwasher safe", trust me it is NOT....and it is not stainless steel.
I have no idea what these other reviewers are thinking leaving positive reviews about this tenderizer. Their reviews was the main reason I purchased this tenderizer. That's why I am leaving my review, so you don't go through what I did.
Yes it's the same Faberware product that I am talking about. Same exact one with the same product labeling as shown in the picture.
This is similar to all the other tenderizers out there that having a coating on it. Most of the tenderizers on Amazon that are advertized as stainless steel are not. Read the reviews to confirm this. Plus I can tell just from looking at the picture from my past experiences. Been through 3 tenderizers. None stainless steel or dishwasher safe. I am still am unable to find one that is made of stainless steel especially on the tenderizing portion of it. Don't fall for the manufacturer's gimmecks either. Some claim stainless steel and yes it does have stainless steel construction somewhere on it, but on the handle or maybe the circle where you can hang it, but NOT on the head.
Hope I saved you the hassle of purchasing this one and others that are falsely claimed.
