★★☆☆☆
slippery soles
Perhaps I got a flawed pair of these, but I am having a serious problem that no one else here mentions. I have been a Keen customer for many years now, and I have loved every shoe and boot I have purchased. These boots are characteristically comfortable and attractive, but a good hiker they are not, unless conditions are perfectly dry. I found right away that if I stepped on even a slightly wet sidewalk, the ground started to slide beneath my feet. Forget about a wet rock or wet steep spot. They are still relatively new, so I thought that maybe the soles needed to be broken in a bit to wear off the smooth bottom. But today I sit here with an ice pack on my knee having just slipped on a rough small patch of ice that any other boots I own would have handled with ease. I live on the side of a mountain, so am no rookie at this. I consider these boots to be dangerous, and am questioning whether or not I should ever go for another pair of Keens, even shoes, if the soles are now going to be like this. I hope it is fluke, and not the result of a change in materials. If others have experienced this I would appreciate hearing. "Four wheel drive for your feet"? . . . not so for me.
