Who is this book for?
Honestly, I don't get it. They author tries to appeal to the sensitive side, but it just comes across as awkward (like the mom driving across town and sneaking through the window into her adult son's bedroom while he's asleep to sing to him). I mean, the kid in this book is a terrible example at almost every age he's transitioning through. I'm expected to read to my son about this kid who wrecks the house, "doesn't want to take a bath", "says bad words", etc. Yes, there is supposed to be a moral to the story, but by the time the kid you're reading to is old enough to understand that moral, they won't be reading little kid's books. I guess it gives some parents the feels or something. There are people talking about how they were "literally" in tears reading this book. Meanwhile, your kid is learning that it's cool to be a little brat as long as they are nice to their parents on their death bed. We have a couple hundred kids books at this point. Some of them I don't care for, but this is the only one that prompted me to go online and write a 1 star review. My wife finally just said to me, "can I just throw this book away?" To which I replied, "yes, please do!"
