Failed during first power outage
I purchased a 22KW whole house Generac generator in May 2018 and was initially very happy with the appearance of the product and the customer support, however it failed on June 29, 2019, during it's first real test due to a storm, resulting in a 10 hour power outage in 92 degree weather. Lightning did not strike the unit; the outage was caused by a faulty transformer at the pole. I maintain this unit according to the instructions on a regular basis. To add insult to injury, when I called several authorized Generac technicians and explained that the unit was still under warrantee, I was told that I would be charged a $180 non refundable fee just to take a look at it. I feel that this fee, or at lease a portion of it, should be refunded to the owner if it is determined that the unit failed due to a warrantied part. Otherwise, this is no real warrantee. I have warrantees on all of my other home appliances such as pool heater, home AC, etc. and have only been required to pay, at the most, a $75 deductible which is often waived. In other words these warrantee situations are not new to me. When I called Generac directly to complain about this, I was simply told that "these are all independent contractors and they should be paid for their time." I happen to agree with this, however the homeowner, who is under warrantee, should not be the one to pay! Otherwise, this is not a true warrantee. Generac should have contracted with these "independent contractors" in order to deal with this fee so it does not fall on the customers who are just buying these units in order for them to actually work when needed. I am a very unhappy customer and would not recommend this product, and I would be very wary of their "Extended Warrantee" which is heavily promoted. S.A. Miami, Fl
