It makes wonderful omelets, EXCEPT for two things
I bought this device in October of 2015 and let me say this: I bought it to use the omelet maker. It makes wonderful omelets, EXCEPT for two things.
I use it every single morning and place 3 eggs, cheese, olives, sometimes pickled okra, and fresh basil from my garden in it. It turns out FABULOUS.
HOWEVER: the omelet bowl is way too small. It holds just over a cup, which does not allow you to make a 2 person omelet without fear of it running over the sides. Because the dome is shaped as it is, you cannot change out the black plastic bowl for something larger. Good luck with that, we have tried several different bowls and nothing works due to the design.
Here is the biggest kicker though: The switch on this thing is a piece of crap. It is somehow rigged to turn itself off if the cooker runs out of water, but after one minute, it turns back on and can burn your house down. There should be federal regulations banning the way this switch works. I have the device hooked up to an old photo timer so after 29 minutes it will turn off no matter what. So after 6 months, with almost no messing with the switch, the switch just died. The unit would not turn on at all. So I took the thing apart and discovered the following: the slot where the switch lever is will let water inside the burner electrical area, so if you wash this under a tap, you can get water inside the unit. The bolts in there holding the wiring were rusted. Bear in mind I had this 6 months and used it once a day very carefully. So, don't let anything run over inside the unit, such as your omelet because you have to then scrub it under the tap and you will rust out the inner workings. More importantly, the switch is very poorly engineered and should be against the law in my opinion. I took the switch out and basically hotwired the device to be always on, but hooked it up to a timer that will automatically shut off no matter what. This is just scary. Pay attention, folks. If you have bought this and had the switch go bad within a short time, speak up. Reverse engineering the switch showed me that it is very poorly made and should be off the market until they come up with a safe solution.
