Strong, unpleasant chemical smell coming from this air purifier.
When I initially plugged in the Honeywell HFD-120 Tower Air Purifier, I was so excited, because after only 30 minutes, my apartment smelled incredible fresh and clean. However, when I left the unit on medium over an entire weekend with the apartment sealed up against the cold weather, I came home to a place that smelled like paint thinner! Alarmed, I turned off the air purifier, opened the windows, and the smell was gone. Sure enough, it was coming from the air purifer. I was wondering if it was the ionizer? Really strange chemical smell.
Also, the fan itself put out a lot of air, which would be great in the summer, but was too cold for this time of year. It will cool your room substantially.
Sending the air purifier back to Amazon, and ordered the Honeywell 50250N 99.97% Pure HEPA Round Air Purifier. After extensive research and reading all the reviews, with a special thanks to the reviewer "Wolf" for making sure to ordered the right model number.
I should add here, for fairness to Honeywell, that I also own the Honeywell HHT-011 Tabletop Air Purifier, which I use in my bedroom -- I absolutely love it. Great white noise (rushing air sound)/pretty soft-green nightlight. This little tabletop purifier keeps the bedroom air really fresh, and my cat's dander, shedding hair, and dust in check. I do not use the ionizer feature with this model. Nice to have the option. Really glad I got this.
I would not suggest buying the tower air purifier.
Good luck to anyone looking for this type of equipment. Will write another review of the Honeywell 50250N when I give it a good test drive.
