I really loved this herb keeper in spite of my original misgivings about the fragility of the glass and size. It just worked so well. But when I recently pulled it out for use the metal tube and base separated. There was some gross mold. When I pulled off the tube from the top, there was mold/growth there as well. For health reasons it is important to me to restrict exposure to mold, so I was really put off by this discovery. I'm not sure how I can even use this product safely since mold and mold spores can easily start growing in a moist environment and are hard to totally kill. Bleach? Not a good idea on metal. Vinegar? Maybe. IDK somehow it's tainted my experience here. It's long past the time to return this thing so now I will have to decide whether to try to be super vigilant about sanitation or give up and toss the darn thing. Some of my disappointment is about the design. To the manufacturer...why not design a top that is sealed so this doesn't happen? It didn't occur to me that the metal tube would separate and encourage mold. Did I miss something in the fine print?
