Really bad implementation of mesh networking. Be prepared for LOTS of tech support help.
The idea is good, but the implementation of this mesh networking system is just terrible. I spent about $500 on these things getting enough coverage in my home. They are supposed to automatically connect to the internet and update their firmware. They all came with firmware that was incompatible with doing this AND such that they would not work when set up automatically. I had to spend several hours with tech support on the phone getting it to work as it should. But....
Once I did get it up and running and providing the WIFI coverage they claimed, I am having serious issues with the router dropping the internet for minutes at a time. Download speeds show 126Mb/s from my cable modem, but I am often getting only 6Mb/s at the actual devices in question. WHen I set a ping monitor up, it drops out for many packets at a time as packets are lost. This, when I set the ping to only ping within my actual network itself.
Then there is the issue of how many units you actually need to cover things. They claim 3 units for up to 6000 square feet. My house is about half that and I needed 5 units. I got better coverage from a single standalone top end wifi system. This stuff is just overhyped and under performing.
So, this is really a lousy crummy product. It doesn’t work as it should, it’s essentially engineering beta level product and not ready for actual usage.
Now I’m stuck with 5 units worth about $500 and it doesn’t work and I’m faced with round two of tech support nightmare. Oh, and by the way, I’m an electrical engineer so I understand this stuff. I don’t how else to describe this stuff as junk. It doesn’t work right at all.
