Great idea, but small, weak, failure-prone metal contacts inside
At first I loved these little things -- an easy way to get an extra outlet, and to allow cords to connect at a right angle so they didn't stick out so far from the wall. Compact, and the plastic feels very solid. So why the one star? The quality of the electrical connections inside. Within a year, two of the five I deployed had one of their sides fail, such that any plug put in them would only make intermittent contact. This was with very little plugging-and-unplugging; the same stuff was plugged in almost continuously. Intermittent contact is a particularly dangerous situation as that's exactly when you get arcing. Looking inside the little holes, I had to look really hard to see the metal contacts. There isn't much. The hot and neutral contacts are just very thin strips that have just enough of a 'bow' to press out onto the prong, and it looks like in the failures one of the strips just lost a bit of springiness. They are so thin that I would be very hesitant to want to run a heavy load through them despite the 15A rating. Compare to the metal inside typical wall outlet or extension cord socket, and it's totally different. The ground prong just has two small dot-like contacts. Sad to see such a nifty device ruined by saving a penny's worth of metal on the inside, but it is what it is.
