buy a fan instead
I own a Game Store and we repair 360's and PS3's Yes this is a Bad Idea. I would stay clear of it as well. if you want to keep your xbox 360 (SLIM) running cooler. Follow these 3 easy steps! 1. Install all your xbox games to your hard drive. (I am not going to explain to you why just google it) 2. place the Xbox 360 on it's side Not standing vertical up. (the hotter air takes longer to escape through the side vent **if you were to it stand up. Trust me) 3. Place a small table top fan or desk top portable fan blowing from the rear of your xbox so that the Cooler air will blow into the side vents(intake) and the hot air that is coming out from the top (exhaust) Remember laying it on it's side... this will blow the Hot air away from the (intake) Trust me. Note: this works for the slim only... if you have an older xbox then follow the step 1. and 2. but for step 3. place the fan near the front of your xbox at a slight angle (not directly in front because if you know anything about the dynamics of air flow> the back of the xbox is square and the air flow will get trapped behind it **( picture a car and the air is flow travels over the front of the hood then flows over the back of the car.. but if the car was square some of that air pushes on the back window or trunk and you get a slower car that uses more gas!) so if you place the fan in the correct location the cold air should first go into the side intake vents then push the hot air away from the xbox! I would recommend having the fan at least 2 feet away but this all depends on the size and power of your Fan. I hope this helps...
