★★☆☆☆
Fun for a while, but then playing without spending money becomes impossible.
So, I've been playing this game for a while. And while it is fun, I can't really recommend it. Once you hit about level 20, you are introduced to "shelled" monsters. Which require special "love potions" to breed. Of course, there's really almost no way to get these special potions in game--unless, of course, you pay for them. Six of these stupid love potions will set you back $2.99. Doesn't sound TOO bad, right? Wrong. Each time you breed these creatures you will need FIFTEEN of these potions. Now, you will occasionally (VERY occasionally) receive one when your monster levels--in my experience, roughly 10 levels for one potion. Given the amount of food (crystals in this game) each monster requires to level....you'll be getting one potion maybe every week. If you're lucky.
Now, this would be somewhat bearable EXCEPT that this game also has a SECOND type of limited special in game currency in the form of gold bars. That's right, not one but TWO get-it-with-real-money currencies! You get one of these gold bars each time you level and one every 10th day or so if you play at least once a day. This currency runs at 48 bars for about $5.00....and the monsters you purchase with this currency run SIX HUNDRED BARS. EACH. And there are at least 10 of 'em. Yikes.
Final annoyance: The game also gives you quests that are absolutely unfinishable. Like the one to build a Game Room for your monsters. But guess what? There's no Game Room to build! JOY.
I'd up my rating if the game wasn't working so very hard to drain me of every last cent possible....even Tiny Village isn't this bad.
