Works good when the unit does not fall apart. The first time I used it it sent two pit bull mixes running, the second time I used it was just for testing ( very fortunately) as the top fell off and the canister dropped to the ground. It did not release any spray, as it couldn't because the spray release was separated and broke off. If this had been a situation with pit bulls or a bear I would have been seriously hurt or killed. Buyer beware!! If you have this product you will need to secure the top to the container with lots of tape or some other way. I am surprised how cheaply and flimsy this was secured with only a thin strip of plastic holding it in place. No, you cannot get your money refunded for this type of product no matter how defective.
