Absolute travesty.
As someone who has read Tolkien extensively, I was horrified by what I saw in the first episode. Within a single hours episode they managed to:
1. Gloss over the kinslaying and not even mention the exile of the Noldor
2. Misrepresent Finrod,in that he died fulfilling his oath to Barahir, not because he was in pursuit of Sauron.
3. Imply that the elves won the war of wrath on their own, and not because the Vala relented on the doom of Mandos and chose to finally come forth.
4. And most importantly, utterly annihilate the underlying point of Galadriel's story arc. She was banned by the Vala from returning due to being present at the kinslaying and continuing on. On no account would Gil-Galad have ever dictated to her that she return to Valinor. She could not and he would not. And the hamfisted setup they put in its place where she dove off the ship is utterly ridiculous. She was ultimately allowed to return because she demonstrated that she'd learned humility when she rejected the ring.
I expected this to be bad. But I did not expect to be so deeply offended by the hatchet job they did on one of the strongest characters in middle-earth that I'd absolutely refuse to ever watch another episode of this tripe. But here I am.
