Disappointing Poetry, interesting Format
I realize this is a popular book. I admire the effort. However, this reads more like a personal journal than a book of structured poetry. This book lacks technical precision. But more disappointing for me, was the outpouring of stale language. We aren't shown anything in this book, but told about suffering, love, pain, guilt. No imagery - just "I suffered". This the stuff of highschool journaling. Having said that, I know several people who enjoy this book. And if it speaks to you, follow it.
I would not place this in the poetry section. It seems to be a new type of genre -- a type of internet autobiography.
This book is trendy, but will fade into obscurity - fast. But this style of writing, heavily influenced by the web, is an interesting new development in Literature. The format has a future.
