I do not feel this walker is safe to use.
I do not feel this walker is safe to use due to design problems as outlined below. I ordered this Health Smart Walker in August 2014 after I had seen another one during a cruise. I was impressed by the design that allowed the walker to fold like a wheelchair which made it easy to fit through the narrow doors on a cruise ship. I was using a Drive Medical rollator walker with 8 inch wheels which I had traveled with on cruises to Europe including 4 days in Istanbul Turkey with the ancient Cobblestone streets and sidewalks. I never had a problem with rough ground and bumps in pavements or Jet ways getting on and off flights or with the moving sidewalks at airports. The drive with 8 inch wheels preformed perfectly and I still have it, but it is a pain to load in the cars or taxis, and had to be folded and moved sideways through cruise ship cabin doors. After I bought the Health Smart, with 8 inch front wheels like my Drive Walker, I did not travel until September 2015. I traveled in the car and found it easy to place the Health Smart in the back seat and pull it out open and use. The hotel had no rough pavement or rough floors and everything worked fine and I was pleased with the walker. This November, 2015, I took my first Airline trip with the Health Smart Walker. It has been a total disaster. During the boarding on the Jet way I noticed that the walker seemed to hang up on the junctions where the jet way sections meet (this only a small curved bump of about 3/4 inch). When I got off I was real careful of these junctions but noticed that when I hit them the walker tended to hag and throw me forward. I was very careful though the next change of flights and when I got to the destination airport they had a moving sidewalk which in the past I had used with no problem with my Drive Walker. Getting on and off was smooth. This was not the case with the Health Smart when I reached the end of the moving sidewalk both front wheels of the walker hung-up and I went flying over the top of the walker. I grabbed the hand rail and prevent a total fall but strained my foot and right shoulder. After thinking about this and looking at the walker I realize this is a MAJOR DESIGNH FLAW in the Health Smart walker. The problem is the Handgrips for this walker are almost directly over the front wheels, unlike the hand grips on most rollerator walkers where the grips are significantly behind the front wheels. This means your center of gravity is very subject to a forward fall if the wheels hang up on only the smallest bump. I do not feel this walker is safe to use under any conditions due to the walkers center of gravity being almost over the front steering wheels. After reviewing other walkers I could not find any other walkers with the individual users center of gravity so far forward over the steering wheels. As a side note, this center of gravity forward, also make the brakes on the rear wheels less effective. Bottom line THIS WALKER IS UNSAFE TO USE.. . . . . . .
