New 8 inch Fire is being returned (both of them)
I've only had this tablet for a few days but already notice some issues:
CONS:
- there is no date icon showing me today's date. Maybe I just haven't found it?
- getting a web connection seems to be very slow
- my daily issue of the Oregonian took forever to load. I had to sync the device, then go to the newsstand, click on the Oregonian icon and WAIT. My 7" is much faster.
- the way the books I have downloaded as compared to what is on the cloud is not clearly defined. The 7" is much better.
PROS:
- the screen is definitely larger.
- I bought the model without the ads so, thankfully, I don't have to deal with them.
- it is reasonably priced.
Update:
Getting a web page to load is so slow I called Amazon yesterday to report the issue. The tech has opened a ticket for whoever handles these issues as she was able to duplicate the issue.
Hopefully, something will come of this.
This could also explain why the download of my newspaper takes so long.
Additional information:
Tech support handled my issue with the slow internet page load by sending me another device.
Unfortunately, I had the same slow service with this new one. When it takes between 30 and 60 seconds to load a page, I tend to notice it. So, this is being returned as well as the first one.
My question to Amazon is: how can you be designing and selling new Fires with less power than the older models? The speed of the new 8 inch model is not anywhere close to the speed of my 7 inch. The tech support person I talked with yesterday confirmed this.
It seems that Amazon is going for cheap instead of robust and functional.
Not a good move!
