PSA: THIS ITEM IS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RETURNS | Expensive Travel Gift You Can Pass On
I'm sure this is a cute gift to give someone (although not a very cost efficient one) but I was pretty disappointed. I bought it for that exact reason - a seemingly cute gift that I heard about through one of those Christmas Guides. I purchased the Gin & Tonic kit alongside the Bloody Mary version for my brother's travel themed birthday gift. Unfortunately, the duo arrived about two days after the promised date. I kept them in their original packing, logged onto start a return, and discovered that returning them wasn't an option at all, actually. Bummer. (Especially because of the price... ouch) Because I was stuck with it, I opened it up and took a look. I recommend once you receive these to immediately look on the back of the tin for a small expiration date sticker. I didn't have problems with this one in particular but the Blood Mary one had only five months left. The items come in a nice, small tin with some cute branding on the inside stating "WHEELS UP." It's cute. I was a bit disappointed that the actual bottle of tonic was slightly sticky and has a faint residue on it. It also had a bunch of small particles floating inside and I'm none the wiser if that's how it's supposed to look so I'm just mentioning in case it's not. I think it's important to note that this entire kit is SUPER dependent on getting the bulk of the ingredients from the actual flight attendant. For some this may be obvious but it's important to reiterate as it keeps bringing down the cost efficiencies of having something like this. Yeah you have some cute utensils and a bottle of Tonic Syrup, but you still have to pay for the mini bottle of Gin on the plane so how much are you really saving? Unless you're getting this for the novelty of making your own drink on a flight. The instructions aren't too bad but leave a bit to be desired. It states to use the provided jigger to measure a 1/2 oz of tonic syrup...but to do that do you fill up the entire jigger provided or fill it up half way? It doesn't specify. Finally, the cloth napkin came all bunched up in the bag like how you bunch up clothes when you toss them in the hamper. Doesn't impact its use but it looks pretty bad. Would have been better had they folded it up and put it inside - there's plenty of room. I'm unable to speak about the actual taste it derives but just wanted to give a warning to be absolutely sure of what you're buying before you do. These are preeeettty expensive and you'll be stuck with them regardless!
