Do your research!! "Wen" ripping off consumers who buy from their "official" website, MANY people losing their hair!
I am writing this review SPECIFICALLY to warn anyone interested in using this product, who hasn't done it, yet. I have always wanted to try "Wen," after their infamous infomercial. I waited a long time, as I didn't have the funds. Now, I do. Thankfully, upon ordering this kit for the very first time, something told me NOT to order it, from their 1-800 number or their official website. I read the "fine print," on the "Wen" website, and found that they auto charge your card, every month. I didn't want that, so I ordered from Amazon, as I have ALWAYS loved Amazon, and feel they are a very trustworthy company, and still do. I received my hair "kit," and washed my hair with the cleanser / conditioner. I have very long hair, it almost touches the end of my back. It's been color treated, with about 2 inches of grow-out at the roots. My hair is fine, but I have A LOT of it. My hair tends to get oily at the roots, dry on the ends. It usually takes me FOREVER to comb out the knots after washing, even with good conditioner. Yesterday, I used it for the very first time. I didn't use the "recommended" amount (32 pumps, I think??) because that seemed to excessive, especially given that I have never used this product before, and didn't know what it was like. So, after using 4 pumps, I figured that was MORE than enough, to do the job. I didn't let it "sit" in my hair for few minutes at the ends of my hair, like it asked to do. Overall, when it was all said and done, my hair felt wonderful!! A comb went right through my hair, not even knotting up, ONCE. It was like combing through butter. It felt clean, for about the first hour. After my hair dried, I noticed that my roots were still "dirty," oily. The rest of my hair, the color treated part, felt clean; but LIMP. I realize that I did not use this product as it was recommended; but I have learned to trust my "gut" these days, as it rarely leads me wrong. I decided to do some "research," regarding this product. First, I read ALL of the "Amazon" reviews, regarding this shampoo. Then, I read an EXHAUSTING amount of reviews from other sites, only to learn about a lawsuit against "Wen" and and their marketing firm, Guthy Renker. Basically, there are THOUSANDS of women (and some men and children,) who have used this product, who have experienced everything from facial and scalp rashes, hives and blisters, to severe hair loss. PLEASE research this product, BEFORE you use it. Not only do the people at the official "Wen" website / 1-800 number rip people off, but it is making people BALD. COUNTLESS customers of Wen, have ordered this product directly from them, only to have them charge their credit cards for 3 MONTHS worth of product, even after cancelling. I also dug up a few reviews on this product (after many hours of searching,) from a few certified chemists, regarding what is actually IN "Wen" cleansers. The main ingredients in "Wen," are a variety of emulsifiers, waxes and solvents. One of these ingredients, Methylchoroisothiazolinone, is a preservative that is used for "rinse off" products. The problem with this particular ingredient, is that it is an irritant to hair and skin, if left on for any length of time: isn't rinsed out immediately. But "Wen" is directing people to leave it in for several minutes. Furthermore, if "Wen" is ONLY used by a consumer, with no other product, it eventually produces an EXTREME build-up, which will then cause the hair follicle to be blocked, causing a retardation of sorts, of normal and healthy hair regrowth, causing hair to fall out, and not grow back. The variety of of emulsifiers, waxes and solvents, including Glycerin, a humectant, thickens the product and keeps the oils from separating in water. Humectants are pretty common in hair products; but the extreme combination of these in "Wen," combined with the extreme AMOUNT recommended for use, is causing a variety of skin problems and severe hair loss. Bottom line? These people are STEALING money from EVERYONE that orders their products from their "official" website. Many have experienced severe hair loss. And those that haven't? Well, they are the lucky ones. Personally, I will not be using this product again, partly out of principle, what they have stolen from others, and partly because I do not want to gamble in losing my hair. I am going to wash my hair with my "regular" shampoo now, and I hope that I will not see massive amounts of my hair going down the drain, after just one use!! BUYER BEWARE.
