I'm not sure exactly when this unit failed, but it must have been pretty quickly. For months, I thought that the mailman, UPS guy, etc were simply too lazy to ring my doorbell until I finally realized that the ringer unit had burned up. I set it up behind the TV stand in my living room so it wasn't visible. At some point it apparently shorted out and could have caused a fire but luckily didn't. I recently replaced it with a Tenswall Portable Wireless Door Bell Kit 'Improved Version', 52 Chime Tones, Operating at 1000ft/ 300m Range/ 1 Push Button w/ 1 Plug-In Door Chime (Black) unit which is very similar to this one but with improved range and a remote-learning capability. At the time of this review the Tenswall is also about three-and-a-half bucks less. In a lucky twist, I was able to get the new Tenswall ringer to recognize the old SadoTech remote and even program a different ringtone for the Tenswall remote. I don't really have 2 doors that need a doorbell but I'd be all set if I did. Verdict: go with the Tenswall or another brand rather than this now obsolete model. UPDATE: Imagine my surprise when almost IMMEDIATELY my review was met with such popularity! 3 ratings of unhelpful and a comment by an alleged good Samaritan “OneVanilla.” When a product already has thousands of reviews, new ones rarely get rated quickly, if ever. The seller is the only one that would notice so quickly. It only took a few minutes to figure out that every new negative review of a product sold by seller “SW LLC” was met by the exact same type of comment from OneVanilla (or “LDub_Public” “WLBuyer” “m22000” “Thomas” “Christine McDougal” “Dockbook” “CTBuyer”) and multiple negative ratings. I’ve alerted Amazon to these bullying practices so we’ll see where they take it. There was no malice in my original review, just an honest representation of my experience. Any reasonable customer would realize that thousands of SadoTech doorbells that have been sold with very few problems. Now you have the information you need about what the seller will do to manipulate the feedback process.
