★★☆☆☆
too many useless pictures of her, too few real hard information in dying.
some of this is useful, but only a little. what i want in a book like this, which is basically a recipe book, are clear instructions with pictures. there’s some of that, but many are photos of a dye bath without captions so there no way for a novice to know what is in that dye bath, and photos of plants and flowers without information on them, where they are found or where to forage for them. on the nonsense side, there are many milennial-style adorable photos of reclaimed wood and the attractive writer wandering through fields in her muted ophanage-colored loose garments like CP Shades (from the 1980s), pretty but a total waste of pages that could have specific information on dying. and talking about wastes of space...what is going on with her sewing crafts? meant to buy a book about dying, not kindergarten sewing ideas, like placemats for heaven’s sake. and don’t even get me started on her infuriating misuse of the word “as” when she means “because”; i wanted to take a sharpie and edit the whole book.
