How to Learn and Enjoy Traditional American Skills by Reader's Digest Editors
So, I ordered this book and another book, Back to Basics : How to Learn and Enjoy Traditional American Skills by Reader's Digest Editors, thinking that they were DIFFERENT books because they have DIFFERENT COVERS and DIFFERENT EDITORS and this one says how it is UPDATED....Well, it is NOT updated. The content is EXACTLY THE SAME as the ORIGINAL Readers Digest book that is for sale, used, for much less.
The only difference is that this book is printed on glossier paper, printed in CHINA (whereas the older book was printed in USA on good quality think paper) and they changed a handful of photos. Even the "changed photos" are simply a similar type photo.
Example: woman in old book is weaving a rug. She looks like she is from the 1970's. In the "UPDATED" version, the same text, same layout, same photo except it is of a more modern looking woman weaving the same kind of rug. and in my opinion, all of the photos that were replaced were BETTER than the new ones.
So, if you want a book about tons of subjects, you are a "PREPPER" or a homesteader or you just want to learn how to do things around the house and bridge the gap with the past, this is a GREAT BOOK.
BUT, if you think this is somehow "UPDATED" and different from the other two editions of the Reader's Digest book of the SAME NAME, then you are wrong. If the other two books are available, and cheaper, buy them.
And yes, I some how ended up with THREE COPIES of this book. I have the ORIGINAL (it has a tan cover), the SECOND EDITION of the Reader's Digest (it has a green cover) and then this "UPDATED THIRD EDITION" that does NOT say it is by Reader's Digest, but it is and that, my friends, is how I know that every copy is as close to the same as any three books could be.
GREAT BOOK, MUST HAVE BOOK, but know what you are getting and find the cheapest copy possible.
