BEWARE you may receive a used drive with no warranty
I ordered this product twice from two different Amazon sellers, and BOTH TIMES I received used drives even thought the listing said they were new. I would not have known they were used, except that a drive failed. When I tried to use the 5 year warranty shown on the web site, Western Digital told me from my serial number that I had an OEM drive and had no manufacturer warranty. The reseller hasn't responded to any of my emails, and Amazon's a-to-z guarantee had already expired by the time I knew I had a problem. So I had no drive and no warranty. Just out the money. I ordered another of the same drive, this time from a different seller. This time I checked the warranty on Western Digital's website. There were only five months remaining of the 5 year warranty! And the S.M.A.R.T. data on the drive indicated it had been powered on for most of those five years. In other words, this drive was also a used drive, and its warranty was about to expire! I am returning it as the incorrect item, since it was listed as new on the web site. If you buy this product through Amazon (or any other online retailer), be SURE that as soon as you receive the drive, you go onto Western Digital's web site to check the warranty, and also check the S.M.A.R.T. data on the drive (I used the free Acronis Disk Monitor) to determine whether it is really a new drive or not. Buyer beware!
