Most disappointing book ever *Spoilers*
*END OF BOOK SPOILERS* I'll start by saying I did thoroughly enjoy this book until it ended. Lou seemed kind of dim-witted at the beginning, but she was a charming, warm character who slowly discovered who she is and came out of her own shell. That was a joy to read. Will was kind of an ass and needed someone to knock him down off of his high horse. I truly got caught up in their relationship, it was beautiful. They were made for one another. I loved reading about them falling for one another, I couldn't put the book down. Then we come to the end of the book. Now the thing is, there are many faults in this book about a disabled person, especially a depressed, disabled person, which Will most certainly was, and some things can be overlooked because it is a piece of fiction. However, as a writer myself, I feel that Moyes failed here because she should have put forth more effort by researching what she was writing about. In the United States some states have what they call the Death with Dignity law, but you have to be on death's door in order to use it. Will was not dying. Yes his life had changed, and he found it unbearable, but he was absolutely refusing to accept what had happened to him. He was depressed and mentally unstable. He needed help and no one thought to give it to him? He tried to commit suicide, but was in no kind of therapy? Here in the US when you do that you're automatically but on a psych hold. I know, I've been there and done that. Unlike Will here, I have a heart and lung disease, that has no cure and is slowly killing me. I had a pacemaker put in and had a heart attack all before the age of 30. So the fact that this author has had this character commit assisted suicide, when he could have lived a perfectly happy life with the girl he supposedly loves, pisses me off to no end. Not to mention it is completely implausible because he would not have been a candidate for it. Moyes completely destroyed her character by turning Will into a selfish coward at the end. Then ruined her book by turning what could have been an amazing uplifting story of love and courage, into something that could actually lead someone to believe that committing suicide is an okay course of action. I have never been more disappointed in a book in my life.
