Buyer Beware: AMBIGUITY with regard to "grass fed," and esp. hormones, antibiotics, etc.
--- From the "FAQ" page of their website: "4. How are the cattle raised? Our cattle are grass fed and slaughtered in Argentina and Brazil which is controlled by their respective Department of Agriculture. These countries have the same type of rigourous tests and inspections as the United States. Beef hides are the only product used to manufacture gelatin in these countries." a) This could literally mean one blade of grass, and the rest GMO corn (there are none of the typical assurances like "100% grass fed," "grass finished," or what proportion is grass, and what proportion is corn, etc.). b) "Grass fed" is an ENORMOUS selling point. People pay more for it, and when companies pay the steep cost for it, they promote the hell out of it. But this company doesn't put it anywhere except in the answer to a question about how the cows are raised (not on the labeling or in any promotion). c) "Grass fed" is not exactly a comprehensive answer to a question asking how the cattle are raised (three sentences, and "grass fed" is all we get). "7. Are your pigs or cattle fed any hormones or other kinds of artificial fillers? There is no way to be certain of all concepts of feeding of these animals, but what we can assure you is that of all tests that are known to us we find no disease, antibiotics, hormones, pesticides, or herbicides in the skin or hides of animals used to produce gelatin. Therefore none of the above items are transmitted to our products." Personally, when I'm consuming grinded up animals from foreign countries, I have to trust the product and the company. Their prevarication on these important questions makes that difficult.
