★★☆☆☆
Boring
I couldn't finish it, although I'm a big cozy mystery fan. I guess I've had enough of child-woman protagonists. This one allows a man she is casually dating to behave like a jealous husband, even to the point of having an investigator following and photographing her with a man her family considers inappropriate and with whom she is not, in fact, having an affair. A fact she has repeatedly informed everyone of, while they all behave as if she is a promiscuous congenital liar. Then there is the brother, whom she allows to behave like the strict father of a teenaged girl, and the mother, who can terrify her with no more than a raised eyebrow. Grown women don't behave like this, unless they have serious psychological problems. To have so many authors portraying adult women as unable to set even the most fundamental boundaries is starting to become offensive. Besides that, the protagonist is just plain stupid. For example, she has a young couple drag her around to show them multiple houses, in which they always immediately disappear into the master bedroom, reappear later in a disheveled state, giggling and in one case with a blouse buttoned wrong, and it never dawns on her that they like having kinky sex in other people's houses. She just keeps showing them house after house, while whining about not making any money as a realtor. Pass on this one—even if it's free. It's so bad that it may have put me off the entire genre.
