Not safe for use with hot adjacent burners
I bought two of these for my girlfriend for Christmas. Since she has a small kitchen with very little counter space and also had no cutting boards, it seemed like the perfect solution. She has used one of them consistently, leaving it over the unused burners while using the uncovered burners and the oven. This has worked well until today, when she was using an adjacent burner and the item literally exploded, sending shards of glass all over her kitchen. She was lucky enough to have walked away from the stove just before it happened; if she had been standing in front of the stove, she would have been seriously injured. Since the item is made of tempered glass, we thought it should be able to withstand indirect heat; she has never placed it directly over a recently used stove burner, and always puts a potholder underneath a hot item when placing it on the glass. While this item can still be useful in other ways, the buyer should beware that it is NOT SAFE for consistent use near hot burners.
