I really, really tried....
I've been a fan of who since I was 13 years old, starting with Tom Baker on PBS. Eventually, got through all of the Doctors as they were broadcast (out of order, but that was PBS lol). Fell in love with Jon Pertwee's Doctor and Roger Delgado as The Master. Loved the series and had them all on tape (now I have them all electronically). Introduced my kids to it and my eldest daughter would always ask for Doctor Tom, as Tom Baker was her favorite, and still is to this day as an adult. I loved the nuWho series, despite its ups and downs. I have always loved Doctor Who and even follow a lot of the Big Finish titles as well. There is so much Who out there right now, I doubt that even if it stopped now, I don't think I would be able to get through everything in my lifetime. However, there has NEVER been a point in my 30+ years of loving this show when I wanted to stop watching. Sure, there have been ups and downs, but never to the point of me saying, "I'm done." Well, as of the 6th out of 10 episodes of the 13th Doctor, I can honestly say I'm going to pass on this Doctor. While she should be a STRONG woman, she is portrayed as amazingly weak, the companions are not interesting (in my opinion) at all....with the exception of maybe Graham, but even he is quite weak. The stories are written horridly, enough for me to wonder if it is Class instead of Doctor Who. It now seems to be geared for a much younger audience and no longer seems like a family show, more like how it was originally conceived as a children's historical and science show. Yeah, they brought back the essence of the Hartnell era, but littered with so much PC commentary that even an old lefty like myself considers it too much to take. I wanted a STRONG woman Doctor and was excited for her, but now I'm just done and waiting for the next Doctor. In the meantime, though, there is PLENTY to catch up on with the 8th Doctor, War Master, Gallifrey, 4th Doctor Adventures (YAY!!!) and even new Torchwood. So, even though I can't stand the direction of the newest of nuWho, I still have plenty of Who to occupy myself until the next Doctor. I also have plenty of years to rererererewatch lol. Best to all of you who like the nunuWho and I hope you enjoy your time with her. But for me, I'll take a pass and just wait for a few years to jump on board again. The show changes and I realize that you aren't going to like everything. I might check in here and there, but for the most part, I really just don't care about "Team TARDIS" at all. Happy viewing, to those who like it. Peace to you all.
