Not Worth Time nor Money
I believe this is the first "biography" I've ever read obviously written by the subjects of same. The prose was horrible - "the rising sun washed over her makeshift yoga garden, while an exotic flock of birds that looked as if they had just had their tails dipped in pots of colourful paints serenaded her". OMG. Could we possibly try to fool MORE of the public into thinking that Meghan and Harry didn't write this themselves with the help of a PR firm and two enterprising reporters who probably jumped at the chance to participate in such subterfuge. Too bad most people with half a brain will see through this attempt to self-aggrandize. I admit I could not finish this, at least not without taking a break and getting in touch with reality again. If I had been able to remove the horrible prose, written for someone with an eighth grade education and meant to make them feel "smart", I probably could have stomached part of this. Maybe. Probably Not. This book was, for the most part, Harry and Meghan's way of justifying themselves to the world. Every single move they made from the moment they met is immortalized in a way to make them appear "right" and the rest of the world appear to be slightly skewed. If, as their numerous and quite public statements said, they did not participate in this farce, then they fed the lines to their friends and allowed them, once again, to speak for the Duchess. My opinion of Harry, allowing his wife to now be his mouthpiece, went so low that I've decided as cute as he was as a kid, he didn't grow up either cute or smart. His mother, the late Princess Diana knew how to play the press, how to take full advantage of them, something at which Harry and Meghan are failing. One cannot, on one hand, want to "explain" oneself constantly, then on the other, complain that they're getting the attention they wanted, except maybe a bit more than they'd planned on. This book is fluff, nothing more. This tendency to make biographies into "even the score" pieces, or as one biographer in Great Britain called the raft of current biographies, beginning with anything written by Princess Diana, a "vehicle for settling scores". But even as fluff, this book is just downright embarrassing. It is obviously authorized by the Duke and Duchess. Why? Because these people are suing everyone and everyone's cousin for everything. I've never seen a Royal so quick to head to court and air their dirty laundry as these two have been. So, someone writes an UNAUTHORIZED biography and has more detail in it than could possibly be gotten from third party sources, and they DON'T sue? Not likely. In fact, the entire idea that Harry and Meghan would not have been up in arms about some of the details is ridiculous. The people I feel sorry for are Meghan's former assistant. The book doesn't hesitate to make Meghan right and the assistant wrong. Then the night nurse. Then the Queen's dresser who (gasp!!!) handled the tiaras without gloves (and how would the biographers know that if they weren't in the room, or (another gasp!) Meghan TOLD someone to tell them. Sorry, this wasn't worth the money I spent, and it irks me that they just put another "nominal" amount into the multi million pound fortune (yea, Meghan, you may want to change that line up a bit - that "nominal" sum you are worth? Trust me, you aren't.). By 50%, the book had made me feel sorry for Harry for getting caught up in this woman's sphere of influence. She stated before she ever met him that she was fascinated by royals and wanted to be a princess. She got her wish. Let's hope she doesn't take Harry down with her. This book should help that a lot.
