Worse yet, there is no hint on Amazon nor in the book itself that these are not translations of Anderson. No translator is credited; HSA is listed as the author. Nothing like abridged or based on is stated anywhere. I just finished Hillsdale College's online course on Classic Children's Literature, and basically EVERYTHING significant that they focused on in the Snow Queen has been expunged. There is no direct address to the reader, no complex descriptions of colors, and no theology. For example, the episodes where Kai tries to recite the Lord's Prayer but can produce only the multiplication table; and where the Snow Queen asks him to form the word "eternity" is gone. HSA was a real author who put his name on his books. These are not anonymous, plot-driven fairy tales that can be summarized without losing their meaning. I give it 2 stars for the artwork; there is o excuse for the bowdlerizing.
