Non stainless bearings used in rollers = fail
You may be awed by the high number of positive reviews for this machine. The Hoover rep told me there were no instances of roller bearing failure but that there were a lot of people needing new roller brushes.
Uh, yes, the non stainless bearings on the end of the roller brushes go bad and then will make your rollers rumbly and perhaps seize. Then you, not knowing any better, will call Hoover to get replacement rollers, when the original problem is that Hoover specified non stainless bearings in a wet location. Unbelievable.
Our particular case was non-warrantable, because we are using it for a small school. Yes, our usage would be higher than for "non-commercial" use, but the bearings in the rollers went bad in about a month. The machine is relatively new, and nothing else is worn on it except for those bearings.
I got SR1602-2RSC SRI-2 stainless bearings from bocabearings for about $15, shipped (that's for two bearings). So, figure that as an additional cost to be tacked onto this machine. And, you'll want to replace them before they go bad and ruin your rollers. They are easy to get to and are between the rollers and the plastic end plates you use to pull the rollers out. If they are not smooth or are missing a seal it's replacement time.

Please read the comments, as the bearing number has been updated (supposedly SR9902-2RSC LGF is the new number). I'm grateful for all of you chiming in. I have to say: your responses reassure me I'm not incompetent. I honestly still can't believe Hoover is overlooking such a simple and significant design flaw.
