Left my potato beetles thriving
Over the years, I have used Neem Oil with success in my organic gardening. I had a giant bottle of it, but apparently when we moved a year and a half ago, my Neem Oil didn’t make it. So when potato beetles moved into my garden and started stripping it bare of potato plants, I quickly got online and ordered Bonide’s Ready-to-Use Neem Oil. The day it arrived, I used half a bottle on my potato plants. I was desperate. I had been trying to hand pick and squish potato beetles but I was overrun. Based on my prior successful use of Neem Oil, I thought I was safe. Two days later, I checked my potato plants. They were STILL covered with potato beetles. Even the parts I had extra thoroughly sprayed with this product were infested. It was like I hadn’t sprayed at all. We had no rain so I couldn’t understand why the Bonide Neem Oil didn’t work. The product description specifically states: “ Kills all stages of insects, eggs, larvae, and adults.” And then I read some of the reviews. Apparently, I didn’t buy the Neem Oil product I thought I did. In my desperation and hurry, I was not careful enough. Now I am concerned about what I sprayed on my plants.
I am still hand picking, shaking and squishing potato beetles. I received absolutely no benefit from using this product. Even the baby beetles are still thriving on my potato plants. I have now resigned myself to a potato-less year this gardening year.
I purchased Bonide’s 022 Ready to Use Neem Oil, 32-Ounce at full price. After my experience with it, I would certainly not recommend it for potato beetles. It takes an awful lot to get only 1 star from me, but this product was an utter failure on my potato beetles.
