Buyer beware! This thing is a furnace!
Despite looking up reviews online, more than one of which mentioned cooling issues, I made my decision based upon the reviews here on Amazon. That was a mistake.
This is the hottest computer I've ever used. And by "hot" I don't mean awesome, good, fast, etc. I mean it consistently runs at 96 degrees Celsius (204 degrees Fahrenheit), with the cooling fans going nigh full blast essentially without respite. It gets hot quickly (after only a short time gaming), stays hot, and just just seems to keep getting warmer. The body of the laptop above the F keys (near the screen) gets so hot, it will literally BURN you (reaching 140 degrees Fahrenheit for me), if you touch it for more than a second or two. It's like gaming on a stove top for Pete's sake. I was going to make a video of water boiling off the case, but didn't want to compromise my ability to return it. Heat progresses (over time) down the middle of the keyboard to the top of the touchpad, until only the outer most (lateral) edges of the keyboard remain relatively cool. (SEE INCLUDED VIDEO. That number is the tactile temperature of the laptop exterior.) I feel compelled to turn off my game at that point because it shows no indication of stopping. And this is in a room with the ceiling fan on high and the AC turned down to 62 degrees. I was sitting in a cold room, fully clothed, wearing a light jacket trying to mitigate the overheating. It didn't work.
I have serious concerns about the longevity of this laptop; i.e., that it will cook itself to death. I've only been able to play for about an hour before the keyboard gets uncomfortably warm, I begin to experience issues (screen stutter in game, etc.), and worry the laptop may damage itself with protracted use. Needless to say, I expected much better from a unit approaching a 3k price tag, and don't think it will serve my purposes (extended gaming). I don't need this kind of hardware to browse webpages and stream video. If I can't game with it, safely or reliably, it's effectively useless. I've seen videos showing how to possibly (moderately) improve this issue, but they require opening the unit and voiding the warranty. Given I had concerns about impending issues with this laptop, voiding the warranty was something I was simply unwilling to do for a solution that, even if it worked, only resulted in a slight improvement. This is just an epic design fail in my opinion.
Before concluding something else needs to be addressed. There are far, far, far too many reviews on this website which make claims devoid of any evidence, and/or based upon nothing of substance whatsoever. For example, the reviews here stating this laptop is great for gaming, PROVIDE ZERO EVIDENCE for that claim. They inexplicably provide pictures/videos of things like the desktop, or streaming video while giving glowing endorsements, and nothing depicting the unit's performance under stress (unlike my uploads). In one of the reviews praising it, the reviewer states they didn't even buy the laptop. (Uh, what?) You folks need to be mindful of this, the sheer abundance or BS'ers on this site, when making your decision. I would go so far as to say, based upon my experience, that this laptop is not only not suitable for it's ostensible purpose but even potentially dangerous. Who wants to worry about being burned while using their computer?
P.S. Frame rate was decent on Fallen Order at 1080p by the way. Not great. Not awful. Adequate is the term I would use.
