Works BUT- Most of the antenna is for looks ONLY. Only a small part is actually functional.
The majority of the antenna is actually fake in that it is for looks only and does not actually provide any signal whatsoever. I have attached Photo 1 which shows the majority of the antenna which is for looks only. Photo 2 shows the only portion of the antenna which actually receives or contributes to the signal. Photo 3 shows how the attaching bolt of the receiving section is completely insulated and isolated from the fake portion.
I've spent 30 years in professional broadcasting and hanging antennas on radio/tv towers. The "fake"elements do not direct or contribute to the signal in any way, shape or form. Compare this to the Channel Master Advantage 3020 on Amazon. All the metal elements of the Channel Master are real and are connected to the output. Bottom line: the functional portion of the Esky HG-997 antenna will work fine in areas close to the broadcast sources. The price of the Esky is one-third of the Channel Master but the Esky also only captures about one-third of the signal. Just be aware that you get what you pay for here.[...]
After this posting there have been numerous attacks on me and this review. I will simply reply that I stand by my review. I do not work for Channel Master. I have worked in professional broadcasting and hanging antenna systems on towers for 30 years. I have a spectrum analyzer and measured the signal with and without the rest of the non-functional part of the unit. In response to one of the critics, yes, I know what a YAGI is. I have mounted many of them (Scala brand). ALL elements on a professional YAGI are actively linked - not like this Esky model. It does not reflect the signal and does not function like an LNA or LNB in a dish. I did not intend to offend anyone with this review. It is my professional opinion on a verified purchase.
