I bought this based on reviews, turns out it's not that great. Yes the base is metal however, the rest is plastic. The focusing track on the one we received has a few stripped teeth so you have to turn the knobs a few more times to get it to focus. It has a really narrow field of view, which makes it harder to line the slides up. Thought it is adjustable, you basically have to be right on top and dead center of the eyepiece. The "1200x" is rather useless given the viewing angle. The optics are inferior, I've had better from a $20 drug store cardboard telescope. The LED light source is blinding, you have to angle it at about 45° in order to have the proper lighting. I am giving it such a harsh review as it really is a sub par product and not very happy with what my money was wasted on. Learn from my mistake and look for another product.
