Tortured and twisted logic to support non-existent racism
The premise is that our tax code is racially biased. For example, the author comes to this conclusion with examples of tax differences based on joint returns and the relative earning differences between husband and wife. The "white" couple has the man earning the majority of joint income as his wife stays at home with minimal income. The "black" couple has a more balanced distribution of earnings and is subject to the classic "marriage penalty". It fails to acknowledge that if both couples have the same combined joint income, each couple will have the same tax liability if they have the same number of children. The book says that "white" jobs have better tax-deferral (401k) options that do jobs which have higher proportions of "black" workers. Every examples is based on similarly twisted logic. It may be true that different groups have different levels of education, different number of children, and different economic situations, but saying that the tax code itself is racially biased is absolutely ridiculous. There is no "box" for race on a tax filing. The same math applies to each person independent of any racial consideration. It is completely neutral with respect to race. It is true that the tax code is very complicated, favoring some (low earners) and penalizing others (high earners). It has been a very, very long time since I've read a book so filled with tortured logic and ridiculous conclusions.
