the details are the killer...
Its the details that kill this thing. 1. 9.99/mo is advertised on their site for 5 minute tracking. In small print at the top of the column it says 12 month contract. OK.. $9.99/mo with 12 month minimum? Nope... they charge $99 upfront for a year of service anyway. I called the company before ordering and they verified that its not really $9.99/mo for that first year.. false advertising.. they also told me when I asked that there is no trial, its $99 or no service. If it doesn't work for your needs you are out of $99. 2.I figured since the additional add-on waterproof microUSB cable was a direct wire to 12V and it advertises hard wiring installs, that the cable that came with the unit would be the same, but not waterproof.. nope.. its just a standard 3' microUSB cable. A picture would help.. 3. If the unit loses power it DOES NOT automatically turn back on and continue tracking when power is restored. Therefore, this unit is dependent on AAA batteries which means don't put too much effort into a concealed install since you'll have to replace them eventually even if hardwired. An example if this would be installing it in a car using the accessory power wires which are located throughout the car... when the car is off the unit is running off batteries which probably would last a while.. but not forever. You need to hard wire to a constant 12v line and hope it never restarts itself or loses power in any other way or youll have to press that on button. I have ordered a 12v to USB DC converter to install the device. 4. Its not that great. I threw it in my glove box with logo facing up just to test it. It tracked 2 points over 23 minutes and the points were not marked as being 5 minutes apart but between 6-7 minutes with large gaps for the missing points. The points matched up directly on the road though. Also, when sitting in plain sight on my dash it is unable to get a gps point in my garage with 2 windows, so it never looks like the car actually makes it home. 5. Customer service, I called and it only took 4 minutes to get to a person which is great, except the woman sounded drunk and was easily confused. Like talking to a brick. Plus hearing their terrible policies soured that conversation. 6. DAT AGREEMENT! Pasted it into wordpad and it goes forever at least 20 pages.. talk in it about having to call/contact them 30 days before service ends or you cannot cancel service. I didnt have time to read anymore.. Ill edit this review after hard wiring if it improves gps signal or anything else Ive mentioned. So you pay for 5 minute tracking but now I'm thinking i need 2.5 minute tracking since half the points fail to register.. Ill play with location once the 12v to USB cable comes and I see what my 12v constant lines give me for mounting locations.
